The devastating earthquake that hit Haiti yesterday (Jan. 12) measured 7.3 on the Richter scale, and thousands of people are currently presumed to be dead. Wyclef Jean was born in Croix-des-Bouquets in the Caribbean country, and took to Twitter yesterday to let his thoughts be known on the events as they occurred. Here are a few of those tweets:
01. “We need the US military as soon as possible n haiti We need the 4 million Haitian that live out side of haiti to Act now, we need da world!”
02. “We need a state of Emergency for haiti please call your fellow councilmen mayors governors etc…. To contact congress we need Aid, Ascap.”
03. “Haiti is in need of immediate AID please text Yele to 510 510 and donate $5 toward earthquake relief.”
These were followed by news that Jean was on his way to Haiti to help out: “Am on my way to the D R to get to Haiti,” he wrote. “Please urge you council men governors to etc we need a state of emergency for haiti,” His final tweet also came with a link to his own website, which is presumably organizing help for Haitians, but is buckling under the strain of visitors at present and wasn’t available at the time of writing this post.
