Track Review: Matmos – Enigma Machine For Alan Turing [For Alan Turing]

You might want to strongly consider catching Matmos at one of their upcoming tour stops so you can get your hands on a copy of the For Alan Turing EP. As you might have guessed, the EP–a hand assembled and autographed 3″–is a tribute to Alan Turing the British mathematician, cryptographer and philosopher. The EP contains material that was originally supposed to appear on The Rose Has Teeth In The Mouth Of A Beast.
“Enigma Machine For Alan Turing” is extraordinary, if for no other reason than the fact that an actual vintage enigma machine is sampled. It’s clicks and clangs form the backbone of the track, as a flashy piano loop is weaved in and out, becoming spliced and turned on its head along the way. The results are haunting and beautiful. Don’t take my word for it though.

Justin has grand aspirations for the future; namely making enough money through music journalism to move out of his parents basement.
