Shyne Calls Kendrick Lamar’s ‘good kid, m.A.A.d city’ Album “Trash”

There’s a time in a lot of musicians’ careers when their music doesn’t quite sound as good as it used to, and they start coming out with batshit comments that warrant nothing less than a palm-to-the-face. For Shyne, that time hit home pretty hard last night. The former Bad Boy rapper and Orthodox Jewish convert posted a tweet about hip-hop’s current golden child Kendrick Lamar and his good kid, m.A.A.d city album that, let’s just say, didn’t sit well with popular consensus.

Needless to say, plenty of 140-charactered hate was hurled Shyne’s way within minutes, and he spent the best part of the next two hours trying to justify his obscure opinion (we’re not saying he’s wrong, we’re just saying the album received no less than an 8-out-of-10 rating from every popular hip-hop media outlet). “The beats was [sic] trash,” “ratchet album,” and “u [sic] caught up in the hype” he claimed, before splurting even more laughable lines like “my debut was far better.”

Accordingly, Hot 97 got on the phone with the Belizean rapper to offer him the chance to right his wrongs. However, wrongs he did not right. “I’m not talking reckless. I said the young boy got potential and I said he was talented, but the album is trash. That’s tough love,” he clarified.

He went on to justifty his comments as some sort of reality check for Kendrick: “I feel bad for him because everybody’s gassing him right now, everyone’s on him. He on fire because of that Interscope machine, he’s on fire because of that Dr. Dre machine. He’s nice, but that’s a lot of hype.”
