PSY’s “Gangnam Style” Given Guinness World Record Certificate

PSY just keeps doing it and doing it well with his international hit “Gangnam Style.” He currently holds the #1 spot on iTunes’ Singles Music Chart and Music Video Chart. His track is also closing in on Billboard’s “Hot One Hundred.” The music video on YouTube broke the record for the most “Liked” video currently with 2,141,758. That means they’ve passed the likes of LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem” and Justin Bieber’s “Baby.” And of course, his appearances all over U.S. television have been shared millions of times on YouTube.

In a press release, Dan Barrett the Guinness World Records Community Manager stated:

“Having been the ‘Have you seen this?!’ video of the last two months across the web, it’s great to be able to award a record for this tremendously popular video. In years past it was unthinkable that something would be viewed a hundred million times, and now “Gangnam Style” has achieved more than twice this figure in just three months on YouTube. PSY – your certificate is waiting here at our office, come pick it up any time!”

In many interviews, PSY has also stated that the original intention for the “Gangnam Style” video was just for the South Korean market. He never knew that it would become this global phenomenon.
