Lily Allen and Patrick Wolf have both spoken out about their distaste for illegal downloaders, taking a swipe at Ed O’Brien from Radiohead in the process. Allen has posted on MySpace, saying: “music piracy is having a dangerous effect on British music. but some really rich and successful artists like Nick Mason from Pink Floyd and Ed O’Brien from Radiohead don’t seem to think so.”
Allen slams the Featured Artists Coalition, saying that it only caters to the needs of artists who have already hit the big time. Wolf has also taken to his MySpace blog to discuss the issue, saying: “Do what you can to protect the music you love, invest in physical purchases, think about the machinery that goes on behind making your favorite band so fabulous and inspiring… and how they should be able to make a living as well as you too.”
Wolf also lashes out at streaming audio service Spotify, claiming he can’t understand how anyone will make money from it. Allen blames archaic record company practices for her woes, although she seems to think Spotify does have some value, Sadly, Wolf and Allen are probably fighting a losing battle, and they know it. “I am on the same ship as you all and the ship is sinking,” Wolf said.
