In a stunningly self-destructive backstage interview, Miley Cyrus claimed she does not listen to pop music and has never heard anything by Jay-Z. Considering she makes her money from sugary, Top 40 hits and that her single “Party in the U.S.A.” is about how a Jay-Z track is her personal fave, this statement is a little unbelievable. Cyrus’ explanation is even less solid:
Honestly, I picked that song because I needed something to go with my clothing line [with Max Azria]. I didn’t write it [and] I didn’t expect it to be popular, originally…[“Party in the U.S.A.”] is not even my style of music.
So what exactly is Cyrus’ style? The reporter asked if she might consider covering her father Billy Ray’s country hit “Achy Breaky Heart,” but the sixteen-year-old singer poo-pooed that suggestion, too. Maybe she’s still hung up on her old favorite band Radiohead. Miley covering “Treefingers” FTW! [MTV]
