Well, it looks like Kanye West has another reason to celebrate this week. Along with finding out that My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy has been certified as platinum, like every one of his albums, he sits atop the most critical of critics’ lists out there: Pazz and Jop.
Village Voice revealed the list today that boasts Kanye’s album taking the number one spot followed by LCD Soundsystem’s This Is Happening and Arcade Fire’s The Suburbs. Nothing terribly surprising there, though it’s really, truly great to see Janelle Monae take the fourth spot with The ArchAndroid.
As for the best singles of 2010, Cee Lo Green tops that list with his ubiquitous kiss-off anthem, “Fuck You,” while Janelle Monae earned second place with “Tightrope.” They are followed by Robyn’s “Dancing On My Own” and two Kanye tracks, “Runaway” and “Power.” This list, for me at least, is a bit of a shocker, if only because I’m completely out of touch with what qualifies as a single at this point. I also rarely, if ever, listen to the radio…because when I do it’s just playing that damn Twista sex-tape song.
