It’s a big day for soundtrack news. First we find out Nick Cave has penned a score for John Hillcoat’s new feature Lawless. Now comes news of a Jack White soundtrack for the new Disney adaptation of The Lone Ranger. White has tried his hand at acting a number of times—remember his appearance in Cold Mountain? Or in Jim Jarmusch’s Coffee and Cigarettes? But this will be the first time he has written a full film score.
The movie will star Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer and is being overseen by Hollywood super-producer Jerry Bruckheimer. “Jack’s an amazing songwriter with a unique style,” Bruckheimer told Variety. “We’re thrilled to hear his fresh take on the William Tell Overture.” Damn right Jerry, we can’t wait to hear that either. Bruckheimer went on to say that Johnny Depp is “thrilled” by White’s involvement.
White’s most notable foray into movie music was the high profile theme song he contributed to the James Bond feature Quantum of Solace back in 2008. But it will be interesting to see where he goes with a full score. And is it too late to revive White’s acting career for a cameo in the feature? He’d surely make a formidable outlaw, or maybe just some dude playing music in a saloon somewhere. The Lone Ranger is set for release in May 2013.
