Earlier in the week we speculated whether the new Gorillaz album, allegedly recorded on an iPad during their recent North American tour, could surface behind one of the doors of the band’s advent calendar. Now, Jamie Hewlett has revealed this is indeed the case, in an interview he conducted with Perth Now.
“At the moment we’ve got an advent calendar on our website and there is a daily door that opens to reveal a gift,” Hewlett said. “On Christmas Eve a video for one of the new songs from the iPad album will be released. Then, on Christmas Day fans get the whole album downloaded to their computer for free as a gift.”
Damon Albarn described the off-the-cuff nature of the recordings: “I literally made it on the road in America over a month,” he said. “I didn’t write it before, I didn’t prepare it. I just did it day by day as a kind of diary of my experience in America.” Keep an eye on this page on the Gorillaz website for more goodies in the buildup to Christmas Day.
