French Political Party Steals “Kids”

Much in the same way that the Republican Party ripped off Jackson Brown’s “Running on Empty” this past fall, France’s UMP – home to president Nicolas Sarkozy – has unlawfully used MGMT’s “Kids” to hype up its near-right leaning constituents. The band has declined royalty offers from the party; instead it has chosen to sue, in part due to an ideological opposition to the conservative organization. The party now bears the shame of violating its fervent anti-piracy policies, as well as upsetting the darlings of pop world. MGMT, on the other hand, get the joy of recognizing that they have exactly one thing in common with Jackson Browne. [YANP]
