Amazon On Demand: Digging in the digital crates

Well it’s about time the internet became useful for something besides viewing home videos of Guitar Hero death matches. Launching itself into an area in which iTunes has previously dipped its toe with some old blues and folk releases, Amazon has created a service that allows users to order "On Demand" copies of out-of-print albums, which are manufactured on the spot on a by-request basis. Amazon has already enlisted a host of labels to participate in CreateSpace to make selected albums from their back catalogues available, including big boys like Sony, BMG, and EMI, as well as indies like Wind-Up and Vanguard. Be of good cheer, weary consumer, no longer need you troll the eBay listings for overpriced copies of Joe Strummer’s "Earthquake Weather!"
