Zach Hill is definitely one of the hardest working drummers around these days. His main gig is manning the skins for Hella, but he has also played with the likes of Team Sleep, Sun Ra's Arkestra, Mike Patton, Nels Cline, and Joanna Newsom. Not surprisingly, then, Hill's first solo album, Astrological Straits, finds plenty of Hill's music world pals repaying the favor by making guest appearances. Those friends include Marnie Stern, Les Claypool, Randy Randall and Dean Spunt of No Age, and Hill's Hella bandmates Josh Hill and Carson McWhirter. Hill did much more than just bang on the drums all day for this album; he also composed the music, sang, and handled the artwork. The second disc of the double album is composed entirely of the experimental track "Necromancer."
