Yuuki Matthews played with two bands known for artful and precise indie pop -- Seldom and Crystal Skulls -- but this, his solo debut, is not a collection of pop gems designed to showcase his own abilities. It is, rather, a relatively lo-fi instrumental album that ventures into fuzz, distortion, scrapes, and rough edges. As part of Asthmatic Kitty's Library Catalog series, it's intended as background music, so the catchy hooks and vocals that Matthews is capable of are put on the shelf in favor of something more subtle.
