One of the more accessible tracks on Why?'s 2005 full-length, Elephant Eyelash, "Rubber Traits" is quickly shifting folk-fuzz with a tender paradox brought on by singer Yoni Wolf: "I don't want to/ When I feel that I could've gone longer" drips the chorus while an acoustic guitar plays a Mellon Collie melody. Three non-LP songs follow, all just as lyrically bizarre ("Have you ever sipped Guinness through a cigarette filter?" from "Dumb Hummer"; "The best chance to pick fights is in the Midwest," from "Pick Fights"), all just as fun and unexpected, even after repeated listens. It ends with the brief and garbled hip-hop of "Deceived," which somehow doesn't seem out of place. More, please.
