White Hinterland’s second full-length is named after a Greek concept for an ideal moment -- a time to strike while the proverbial iron is hot. For this album, collaborator Shawn Creeden and co-producer Alexis Gideon played a larger role, combining singer Casey Dienel’s sultry coos with layers of melodic downbeat, in-studio looping and cavernous space, developed after months of tinkering when Dienel and Creeden moved to Portland, Ore. They had little regular access to a piano, their preferred songwriting instrument, and developed Kairos with just the tools on-hand. The entire album was recorded with a single microphone and aims to feel as organic as it does forward-thinking.
