No one really knows what it means to “Wang Chung tonight” – except maybe Wang Chung – but unlike people who talk about themselves in the third person, you have to love a band who sings about itself in the form of a verb. “Everybody Have Fun Tonight,” the song in which the aforementioned command appears, may have been Wang Chung’s only number one ‘80s hit, but they aren’t one-hit wonders; “Let’s Go!,” “Dance Hall Days” and two other songs also charted. The outfit has laid low since their last release in 1989 – although they resurfaced long enough to perform Nelly’s “Hot in Herre” on a reality TV show in 2005 (?) – but it's 2010 and they’re back with an album of new material. Appropriately titled Abducted by the ‘80s, the LP has been in the works for a few years, and singer Jack Hues promises it will be “[V]ery recognizably Wang Chung” though it “also sounds modern, contemporary.” No word yet on whether, in keeping with tradition, it will introduce all-new uses of the term “Wang Chung."
