Athens, Ga., has produced many legendary oddballs in rock 'n' roll history, but few have been more respected by music insiders -- and more underappreciated by American audiences -- than Vic Chestnutt, a musician who wouldn’t let a mere paralyzing car accident stop him from producing a quarter century’s worth of inspired, cynical folk rock in the Tom Waits mold. With support from everyone from Michael Stipe to Jonathan Richman, Chestnutt has thrived with collaborators who know to let his own voice shine through.
At the Cut, Chesnutt’s fourteenth studio album, is the second that features both all of Silver Mt. Zion and Guy Picciotto (Fugazi and Rites of Spring alum). Following the relative praise given to 2007’s North Star Deserter, At the Cut is again being distrubted by Montreal’s Constellation Records.
