What happens when you yank electroclash out of the '80s and catapult it into the future? It's still pretty lame, that's for sure. Venue gives it the old college try anyhow on its Caught on Film EP, and the results are as to be expected. You take some buzzing bass and update the sample kit and really all you get is something that isn't really danceable and isn't really much of a headphone record either. The eight-minute finale, "ZZZ ...," feels more like sixteen minutes and amounts to little more than a bad Orbital song. (Yes, I thought about it, but that was just too obvious, wasn't it?) Ultimately, it's little more than a synth workout that ends with a painful injury.
