"There are going to be new sounds," says frontman Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend's forthcoming release. Vampire Weekend's much anticipated sophomore album is titled Contra, and features a particularly puzzling but equally intriguing cover photo of a young, vintage looking California blonde in a yellow polo shirt. The oddly alluring picture began popping up all over the blogosphere in early September, but with no context. Was it just another preppy stunt pulled by everyone's favorite men in argyle? Or does this woman have a purpose? All was explained mid-month, and perhaps serving as one of the cleverest indie marketing strategies ever (or at least in recent memory) Vampire Weekend were in the spotlight once more, stating that this fascinating photo would be the cover of Contra, to be released in January 2010. But even if they're looking to develop their sound, fans can at least expect similar production, as Contra will feature the band's own keyboardist, Rostam Batmanglij behind the soundboard once again.
