Review

As a glam rock’s biggest star, David Bowie became an on-again-off-again influence on subsequent generation of musicians, which perhaps explains the remarkably eclectic mix of musicians contributing to We Were So Turned On, the most prominent Bowie tribute album to date. Contributors include '80s video stars Duran Duran, late-'00s guitar noise rockers A Place To Bury Strangers, indie favorites Vivian Girls and Devendra Banhart, European electronic rockers Soulwax and Laco$te, and MGMT, who recently dedicated a single to longtime Bowie collaborator Brian Eno. The proceeds of the album go to the charity Warchild, with the range of musicians making the album much more intriguing than the normal tax deduction.
