Presumably something of a labor of love for Matador Records founder/honcho, Austin resident, and all-around opinionator Gerard Cosley, Casual Victim Pile: Austin 2010 collects 19 tracks from as many bands, and offers a snapshot of the current Austin underground music scene. Some of these folks have been out and about for a little while now (Woven Bones, The Golden Boys, Harlem), but for others this set is a dedbutante’s ball. There are any number of regional comps you could compare Casual Victim Pile to, but let’s call it a This is Boston, Not L.A. for young Texans considering coping the Dirty Projectors. The double-lp/single-disc set is due in late January 2010.
