    Turisas, the sole purveyors of "battle metal," continued the voyage downstream to the Byzantine Empire on its third album Stand Up and Fight. Band member Mathias Nygård described the album as a continuation of the narrative of the group's second album The Varangian Way. “However, it is not a sequel as such. In general, the songs are much more universal and deal with topics that can be placed just as tightly into the modern world as in the 11th century Byzantine Empire.” The album's title track lead single characterized the album's promise of arena anthems, swinging beer mugs and (quasi-) period costumes.
