Already under-appreciated, Houston rapper Trae Tha Truth suffered a further blow to his career last fall when the Houston radio station KBXX The Box refused to play any of his songs or any songs with a Trae feature. The managers at the radio station claimed that Trae was indirectly responsible for a shooting that took place at a July 2009 public concert in Houston, and enacted the ban as an anti-violence gesture. Trae has shot back at KBXX by talking about his work in the community on behalf of the impoverished, and he also sued the radio station for interfering with his business. Can’t Ban Tha Truth, a mixtape with Evil Empire and DJ Folk, is another volley meant to reassert his image and his music. The album will likely feature plenty of Trae’s hardened street tales, slow-rolling H-town swagger, and a prominent feature or two.
