
Tori Amos' eleventh album, November 2009's Midwinter Graces, marked the singer-songwriter's return to a classical approach to music. And she continued to embrace that style while writing Night of Hunters, her twelfth record. According to Consequence of Sound, Amos used the classical-style of writing to assist in telling a dramatic story of reinvention as the listener follows the lead character “on a journey to explore complex musical an emotional subject matter.”
