Thurston Moore's gotten to a point in his career where he can do pretty much whatever he wants, whether it's by himself or with Sonic Youth. Functioning as a cross between Moore's written material (check out his coffee table books on the no wave movement and cassette culture) and his music, In Silver Rain with a Paper Key is "a hardcover monograph containing two seven-inch vinyl records, as well as art, photographs, lyrics, poetry and other texts from Moore's personal notebooks and visual archives," according to his press release. The records feature some new acoustic recordings like "Circulation" and "Blood," and the treat comes from seeing how Moore, an accomplished artist in several fields, continues to strive for new creative high points even though he's got his firm place in the cultural canon. The whole set is a little pricey, but it's still cheaper than those coats Kim Gordon is selling through Urban Outfitters.
