It's been ten years since their seminal debut and six years since their previous LP, and Themselves -- Doseone (Adam Drucker) and Jel (Jeffrey Logan) -- are heralding their return with two full-lengths. (In the interim, the Oakland duo stayed busy with other projects, including Subtle and 13 & God.) The first release was the blistering hip-hop mixtape theFREEhoudini and the second is CrownsDown.
Doseone had this to say about the new release: “CrownsDown is our statue - to rap as it reered us - and the arch and arrow, of what it is to be us, in a decade of music made and the temperature of these two thousands.” It’s also interesting to note that theFREEhoudini mixtape and CrownsDown are the 19th and 20th releases of Doseone’s career, respectively. Now a few words from Doseone, the sad clown mantra of a touring artist in this Web 2.0 world:
Doseone: Would you burn my friend, Jeffrey Logan, Jel, with a cigarette?
Crowd: No!
Doseone: Then why would you burn him with a CD-R?
