Review

After a career that helped propel the grime and garage sound of the United Kingdom, Mike Skinner announced via MySpace that he was “fucking sick” of his rapper name, the Streets. He also said that Computers and Blues, his fifth album, would be his last under that moniker. More than two years later, though, it was revealed that the album had been on hold for nearly a year, causing him to feel a disconnect with its music. As a result, he recorded a sort of-companion piece, Cyberspace and Reds, featuring all new music. The album features lyrics he said make no sense, all of which are delivered over beats he calls painfully repetitive. He produced the album using field recordings blended with chord changes “that have never changed in that way before.”
