Change Remains is the fourth album from the Starlight Mints and their first in three years, so there was anticipation for another collection of their psychedelic indie pop, the kind that comes from flyover states (the Starlight Mints hail from Norman, Oklahoma) where even musical savants are bombarded with AM rock and country. While the Starlight Mints had established themselves as masters of off-kilter hooks and quirky instrumentation, they adopted a new approach for recording Change Remains. The horns, bells and whistles stayed but they took a more collaborative approach to songwriting. Rather than working on previously unfinished songs, the band started from scratch to ensure that for Change Remains...um, change remained.
