A bunch of Montreal-based indie-poppers with an atmospheric, unconventional sound that involves an unusual assortment of electric and acoustic instruments? What a shock! Don't blame The Luyas for the fact that there's been so much ambitious music coming out of their hometown over the last few years, though. After all, any band whose singer plays an electric zither can hardly be accused of unoriginality. And while the stellar guest list on the quartet's album Too Beautiful To Work includes Owen Pallett, members of Arcade Fire, and others, the noise The Luyas make is ultimately their own.
