The Last Shadow Puppets is a duo consisting of Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner and his mate Miles Kane of the Rascals. The project finds Turner taking on a much bigger sound than the garage rock scuzziness of his primary band. Strings on the album come courtesy of musicians from the London Metropolitan Orchestra, playing arrangements scored by Owen Pallett of Final Fantasy/Arcade Fire fame. Understatement was produced by Simian Mobile Disco's James Ford, who helped out on the last Arctic Monkeys album and has worked with the Klaxons. (He also plays drums here.) Not much is actually understated amidst the album's lush orchestration and bold declarations.
