The Brighton, England four-piece set out to improve on the sound of their middling 2008 effort, Konk, by recording a "proper, full album … [that] you can listen to from front to back," according to frontman Luke Pritchard. He further explained that Junk of the Heart is an "upbeat" record meant to enjoyed in the sun. It was produced by Tony Hoffer, who has previously worked with Air and Belle & Sebastian.
