The Jacksons

Destiny and Triumph

Release Date: September 2, 2008
Label: Epic/Legacy

Abstract

Following the recent reissue of Thriller, Epic/Legacy's reissue of The Jacksons' Destiny and Triumph may seem anticlimactic. Although these two records from 1978 and 1980 respectively were commercial successes and breakthroughs in their own right, the '80s belonged to Michael – not his brothers. However, in contrast to the brothers' long history of using a songwriting and production team, the family wrote the majority of the material on these albums. The hit singles "Shake Your Body" and "Can You Feel It?" can be viewed as blueprints to Off the Wall and Thriller's signature pop and R&B hybrid. Each reissue includes remixes and an essay by noted journalist and writer Ernest Hardy.
