The Horse’s Ha is a conglomeration of several Thrill Jockey and Chicago bands. They formed way back in 2002 only as a side project for Freakwater and Eleventh Dream Day member Janet Beveridge Bean and James Elkington of The Zincs. The folksy quintet consists of Bean, Elkington, Nick Macri (also of The Zincs) on bass, Charles Rumback on drums and Fred Lonberg-Holm on cello. Listening to the few tracks streaming on their Myspace, the band has a quiet folk tinge, with interlocking vocal harmonies from Bean and Elkington. Literary astutes might notice that the The Horse's Ha moniker and the title of their debut LP, Of the Cathmawr Yards, share their names with the Wales graveyard that shows up in the Dylan Thomas short story, "The Horse’s Ha.” Zombies apparently hang out in Thomas' Cathmawr Yards, so watch out!
