America’s most famous jam band might have ended when its leader, Jerry Garcia, died in 1995, but its vault of live recordings has still not been tapped out. This release will be a DVD/three-CD set. It being touted as capturing “every second” of the band’s July 7, 1989, concert at Philadelphia’s John F. Kennedy Stadium” (and the “every second” aesthetic is probably a response to the criticism over previous vault releases that omitted songs or entire sets). Unlike the band’s Dick’s Picks soundboard recordings series, this one has been mixed down from 24-track master tapes and was even mixed into 5.1 surround (for the DVD), and mastered in HDCD (for the CD). It also marks the last period the band had keyboardist Brent Mydland, who would die a few months later.
