The Baseball Project isn't some Ken Burns TV sequel; it's yet another endeavor of the ever-busy Scott McCaughey, who also heads up the Minus 5 and the Young Fresh Fellows and regularly assists R.E.M. on guitar. R.E.M.'s Peter Buck joins McCaughey in the Baseball Project, as he does in with many of McCaughey's musical pursuits. The group is rounded out by Steve Wynn of the Dream Syndicate and other bands, and drummer Linda Pitmon of Golden Smog and Miracle 3. And yes, as you might infer from the band's name, the album is all about baseball, past and present. Songs include "Ted Fucking Williams," "Gratitude (For Curt Flood)," and "Sometimes I Dream of Willie Mays."
