If any band from the Elephant 6 Collective deserves a greatest hits collection, its the Apples in Stereo. Although its offshoots (Neutral Milk Hotel, Olivia Tremor Control) were arguably more influential in the long run, the Apples have released a much more extensive catalog of consistently great pop music. #1 Hits Explosion! pulls sixteen tracks from the group's six albums. While these sorts of compilations are usually maligned these days, especially when single songs are so easily bought over full-length albums, it's interesting to see a band choose the songs that they feel best document their entire career.
