What Tapes ‘n Tapes might be attempting to walk off on Walk it Off is the pressure that comes with trying to follow up a critically-acclaimed debut album. 2006’s The Loon was blogged about incessantly, Best New Music-ed by Pitchfork, and garnered Tapes ‘n Tapes comparisons to the likes of Pavement and Modest Mouse. Now the band tries to avoid the sophomore slump with Walk it Off. To do so, Tapes ‘n Tapes brought in Dave Fridmann to produce the album. Best known for putting the pretty gloss on top of the sounds of bands like the Flaming Lips and Mercury Rev, Fridmann’s presence should make Walk it Off less of a lo-fi affair than The Loon was.
