Hello Hurricane is the seventh full-length from Switchfoot, and the first of four albums produced in the same sessions. It was co-produced by the band and Mike Elizondo, after initial runs with producers such as Darrell Thorp, Ken Andrews and Charlie Peacock. The follow-up to 2006's Oh! Gravity was recorded primarily in the band's hometown studio space in San Diego, Calif. The quintet severed its major-label relationship with Columbia/Sony BMG to form its own independent label, lowercasepeople records. The LP sees the band moving away from some of its arena-rock tropes for more acoustic and electronic soundscapes. Also, one track, entitled "The Sound (John M. Perkins Blues)," briefly references John M. Perkins, an American civil rights activist, in the lyric "John Perkins said it right/ Love is the final fight."
