Sunn 0))) are coming up on their ten-year anniversary as a band. For most that would be cause for celebration, but for the tectonic guitar masters it seems more like a cosmic joke: could they really have played all of those notes in that amount of time? Either patience is its own sleight of hand or the band's glacial drones truly occupy some blackened nether region of time and space. Allow me to remind you that they wear cloaks.

At least we know someone else is in on it: Their latest full length, Monoliths & Dimensions, features input from art metal peers and various conservatory types, expanding their guttural sonic palate to include vocals, horns, and assorted acoustic timbres. According to the band, it’s “the most musical piece we’ve done, and also the heaviest, [most] powerful and most abstract set of chords we’ve laid to tape.” Occult or not, things are moving forward... slowly.
