Review

Strong Arm Steady spent the better part of the 2000s building a growing fan base across the West Coast. But it wasn't until their collaborative record with Madlib, 2010's very good In Search of Stoney Jackson, that the rest of the country and a wider range of listeners caught on. The trio of Mitchy Slick, Phil da Agony, and Krondon received accolades throughout the year for their gritty rhymes, which were an interesting juxtaposition to Madlib's psychedelic beats. Not looking to slow down, Strong Arm Steady hit the studio again in 2010. They began crafting their third album, 2011's Arms & Hammers, that features a more G-funk, bouncy sound than its predecessor. It also finds the trio linking with producers Jelly Roll and Terrace Martin and California-stalwart Too Short.
