Staind went into the studio to record their sixth album, 2008's The Illusion of Progress, with the intention of making it their heaviest album to date. What emerged, however, was an effort equally steeped in blues, psychedelia, and hard rock. So the Springfield, Mass., band decided to fulfill their promise of heavy rawk while working on their follow-up, Seven. Frontman Aaron Lewis said that it features tunes “as heavy or heavier than the heaviest song on the last record.” It's the last Staind record to feature drummer Jon Wysocki, who left the band in May 2011.
