The four Vienna-based musicians known collectively as Sofa Surfers have received more attention from one track than the rest of their catalog combined. Unfortunately for them, the attention-getter was a remix. Sofa Surfers' debut single, "Sofa Rockers," was re-tinged by Richard Dorfmeister for inclusion on the classic K&D Sessions, released in 1998. Fittingly, the band's sound has been tied to the blunted Austrian duo of Dorfmeister and Peter Kruder ever since, encompassing both observations (dubby down-tempo grooves) and reactions (grimy, world-influenced hip-hop) to the master's form. This album, compiled by Thievery Corporation for its label, ESL Music, is an evenhanded affair highlighting both strong and spotty from Sofa Surfer's first three LPs. The Dorfmeister remix is included here alongside collabs with a varied set of vocalists, from Junior Delgado to Oddatee and DJ Collage.
