The Smashing Pumpkins' Machina II/The Friends & Enemies of Modern Music was the first album that Billy Corgan pretty much gave away, back in 2000. He continues the freebie strategy with his 44-track behemoth, Teargarden by Kaleidyscope. Teargarden trickles out one song at a time. A physical "mini boxed set" of 11 four-song EPs is also available. Aesthetically, Corgan calls it a revisiting of "the original psychedelic roots of The Smashing Pumpkins: atmospheric, melodic, heavy, and pretty." He also notes, "the album is based on 'The Fool's Journey,' as signified in the progress of the Tarot."
