A farewell concert in December 2000 marked what was meant to be the end of '90s alt rockers Smashing Pumpkins. But Billy Corgan just couldn't let go and chose to start the band up again in 2005. They made their official comeback in 2007 with the middling Zeitgeist, their first effort since the two poorly received Machina releases in 2000. Corgan then decided he would go a less traditional route and release tracks sporadically for Teargarden By Kaleidyscope. And in the midst of all that, the Pumpkins frontman chose to put together Oceania, a slightly proper album that helps to tell the overarching story of Teargarden. According to an interview with Music Radar, Oceania is an album within an album that focuses on him “put[ting] a group of songs together that are supposed to go together."
