Brazilian musician Sergio Mendes has enjoyed a revival in recent years thanks to a co-sign from Will.i.am and current stars such as Justin Timberlake, Erykah Badu and Fergie lending vocals for his albums. As with the other two releases during his resurgence, 2006's Timeless and 2008's Encanto, Bom Tempo finds Mendes doing modern updates on classic Brazillian tunes with longtime session collaborators. Encanto strayed away from the Supernatural-esque approach of its predecessor, which piled on the guest stars in favor of a decidedly less commercial Latin fusion sound and fewer big names. Bom Tempo delves even deeper, with fellow countryman Seu Jorge being the biggest name in sight and Mendes dipping into the song books of Gilberto Gil, Joao Donato and Antonio Carlos Jobim, among others.
