Even if for some ungodly reason your Sepultura radar is still ticking, the news that the now Cavalera-free Sepultura was releasing the A Clockwork Orange-themed concept album A-LEX probably left you flummoxed. Not that these Brazilians are newbies when it comes to complete curveballs -- check the transformation from death-thrash to world metal of Roots (1996), or the metallic meditation on Dante's Inferno from Dante XXI (2006). Just that you'd think the band would take a page from the success of the recently reunited Cavalera brothers and their straightforward Cavalera Conspiracy project, instead of running off the conceptual deep end. Even in their current state, though, Sepultura are usually good for a bit of the ol' ultraviolence.
