By now fans of the Wax Poetics persuasion should not be surprised by the endless well of previously undiscovered talent. Yet, even by these standards Rodriguez' story is exceptional: a Mexican-American singer and songwriter from Detroit records songs that recall Dylan and Love with several Detroit/Motown hands (Dennis Coffey, Bob Babbitt, et. al.); his record goes nowhere in the States, but unbeknownst to the artist finds an audience in South Africa, Australia and New Zealand; and now his debut record sees the light of day in the States for the first time since its original release in 1970. Light in the Attic's de rigueur reissue includes a fat book of liners that outlines the story.
