Those are two very important commodities in the title of the new album from Rodney Crowell. And Crowell has been an important Americana musician for a number of years, if but a lesser known one. Crowell played with Emmylou Harris during her formative, and his 1988 album, Diamonds and Dirt, was a chart-topping, Grammy-winning success. Joe Henry, a talented singer-songwriter in his own right, produced Sex and Gasoline. He helped hook Crowell up with some talented session musicians during the crafting of the album, including Doyle Bramhall II and Greg Leisz. Many songs on Sex and Gasoline find Crowell taking on the voice of a female character.
