In an interview with website Vinyl Vintage News, Ray Davies explained that collaborations-project See My Friends wasn't necessarily planned in the normal sense. “This project came about almost by accident,” he said, adding that he had to “appreciate the style of other artists” in creating certain tracks. And those artists' styles run the gamut of heavier acts (Metallica) to indie rock stalwarts (Spoon, Black Francis) to Americana giants (Jon Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen). They have all teamed-up with Davies to create new studio versions of tracks written by the Kinks frontman for his former band, including “Lola,” “You Really Got Me,” and “Better Things.”
