After his solo albums Other People's Lives and Working Man's Café, Ray Davies returned to the Kinks' back catalogue to reinvent select songs. He enlisted the Crouch End Festival Chorus to record choral versions of Kinks hits like "You Really Got Me," as well as lesser-known singles such as "Celluloid Heroes." The Kinks Choral Collection features a series of songs from The Village Green Preservation Society along with a collection of earlier songs and the title track from Working Man's Café.
